Robert Hurst (1959)

Robert Hurst

was born in 1959 and has been playing the piano since he was seven years of age. After ten years of private tuition he studied music and attended various courses.

  • He is a primary and secondary school teacher .
  • He attended a seminar for music teachers (piano) with Professor Herbert Seidel in Frankfurt /Main. (certificate)
  • Tuition with examination and diploma in Darmstadt with Professor Grigory Gruzman

 In 1988 he founded the Music Academy in Oberursel and has been a lecturer for piano there since then. He also lectures in many other Music Academies all over Germany e.g. in Bavaria. At present he is the Head of the Department for Keyed Instruments in Oberursel and has held many concerts with emphasis on Chamber Music, especially for piano trios. He also experiments with new music. He is very interested in the possibilities offered by playing in groups and this is reflected in his teaching methods. He uses the opportunity of playing together to motivate his students.

Parallel to his lectures he adapts music for piano ensembles with a varying number of musicians. “The Flight of the Bumble Bee” is his first publication but many more are sure to follow.
