Donald Yu, born 1980
earned his B.M. degree in piano performance and composition from Baylor University in 2004, US.
Later he received a scholarship to further his compositional study at the Universitaet Mozarteum
Salzburg in Austria in 2007 as well as joined the 2008 Darmstadt New Music Summer School in
Germany. He earned his Ph.D. in composition and music theory at Hong Kong Baptist University
in 2010. Yu's works have been broadcasted and performed at various venues, concerts, festivals,
and conferences throughout the North and South America, Europe, and Asia. He received commissions
and/or performances from the Lugansk Academic Philharmonic Orchestra (Ukraine), the Chernivtsi
Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra (Ukraine), the Opera Hong Kong Chorus, and the Choral Fellows
of the Harvard University Choir (U.S.), Musicorba (France), and Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, etc.
Yu's music has been published by various publishing companies in the United States, Italy, and Hong Kong.
Yu's music is recorded on Zimbel Records (U.S.)-personal album "Illusion" and Albany Records (U.S.)-
personal album "Surrealistic Soundscapes". Since 2000 Yu has also received various scholarships,
awards, and grants from various organizations in the United States, Europe, and Hong Kong for his
compositional achievements and outputs. In addition, his music theory paper has been presented and
published at international music theory conference. In 1998, he made his debut as a piano soloist with
Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra and earned a Licentiate Diploma (L.R.S.M.) in piano performance from '
the Royal Schools of Music. Recently, Yu has also appeared as a conductor for conducting various
orchestras and ensembles in public.
