The idea for “Suite zu dritt” (Suite for three) was born in the family. New creations for young pianists were always a source of lively discussion within the family. As well as the double-handed “Kleinen Märchensuite” (Little Fairy Tale Suite) , “Klaviergeschichten des Burattino” (Stories from Burattino) and the miniatures for four hands in “In jenen fernen verflossenen Tagen” (In Times long gone by), the “Suite zu dritt” deals with the genre of the six-handed musical literature, in which three players are united on one instrument It is especially important for maturing young pianists, who usually practise on their own, that they learn to play together with other musicians. That does not only train consideration for others, the feeling for rhythm and the auditory conception, it also increases the pleasure in the resulting music.
The collection includes compositions of varying character and differing tempi. As each composition sets a special mood , it is possible to pick out single pieces of music to enable the performance of alternating players.
The premiere of this composition, played by a group of music students from Leipzig, took place on 10th. January 1986 .The “Gewandhaus” provided a suitable setting for the premiere and a musical portrait of the composer.
